This past weekend, we took a trip to Meadowdale Beach Park, and it turned out to be such a fun family adventure! The trail is surprisingly kid-friendly — at least on the way down. My son was full of energy, running and laughing the whole way, excited to head toward the beach.

The trail winds through beautiful scenery and eventually opens up to the shore. Once we got there, my son wasted no time playing in the sand and exploring the scattered bits of driftwood and tree debris. It was pure joy watching him soak in the simple fun of being at the beach.

One thing I didn’t expect? The park actually has a water fountain and bathrooms, which felt pretty “fancy” for a nature trail — definitely a welcome surprise for families with kids.

Now… the way back up? That’s where things got real. The uphill climb was a battle for my little one. The excitement from the trip down was nowhere to be found, and suddenly we were faced with the classic parent dilemma: keep encouraging or just carry him up. In the end, my husband and I ended up hauling him for much of the way — and we weren’t alone. We exchanged knowing laughs with other parents making the same trek with tired kids on their shoulders.

Overall: Meadowdale Beach Park is a great, kid-friendly spot with a beautiful payoff at the beach. Just be warned — what goes down must come back up, and your shoulders might get more of a workout than your legs on the way back!
